The town of Sao Bras de Alportel is a mix of old and new, with typical low white Algarvian houses set amongst the grander homes of the past when Sao Bras was one of the biggest cork producing centres of Portugal.
The older part of the city centre, near the church, is very quaint with a few coffee shops and local eateries criss-crossing themselves in the narrow-cobbled streets. The narrow streets are still filled with loads of master craftsman, from cobblers to tailors and furniture makers that allows for your imagination to take you back to the old heritage of this beautiful village. A little further out of the town centre, you can find more modern amenities like supermarkets, restaurants and banks.
Sao Bras de Alportel is a beautiful location for those seeking life in the countryside yet wanting to be close enough to modern amenities, beaches and golf courses.
